The brightest stellar event in recorded human history occurred on April 30th or May 1st, 1006 (Julian) when light from a type 1a supernova in the constellation Lupus reached Earth. It.s estimated to have reached a magnitude of -7.5, making it visible even in daytime for several months. Today the supernova is designated SN 1006 and is visible only by telescope.
