1995 sits at the center of a curious void in online fandom: few webzine had started publishing, and few people have ever made it that far back in transcribing their existing zines. In the whole of the fanac.org archive, the only zines from this year available are Ansible and the August 1995 Gegenschein 72, which reports on a visit to Thylacon, a small Australian convention: "First panel was 30 minutes late. Robin says forget the program. That is traditional fannish advice, but I didn't expect a con chair to admit it so early..."
Albert Einstein introduced special relativity with the paper "Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Körper" ("On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies").
The Fatimid caliph al-Hakim founded a Dar al-Hikma ("House of Wisdom") in Cairo, which was to go on to become one of the most prominent centers of learning and research of the Muslim empires.
