Hamilton performs a similar service for Graham Joyce in his latest novel Misspent Youth, with a walk-on part for Graham as 'a man in his eighties' some decades hence: 'Graham had won the last Booker Prize, back in 2012, when the publishing houses were collapsing in tandem with the copyright laws.'"

Ansible's cartoon that month seems equally prescient: "Yes folks! All knowledge is found in fanzines! With corrections in the next issue."

The long-sought missing link between apes and humans was filled in when the superstar excavating team of Charles Dawson, Arthur Smith Woodward, and Teilhard de Chardin announced their amazing discovery, soon to be known as Piltdown Man.

1000 Years Ago

The latest pope vs. antipope matchup commenced at the death of Sergius IV. Benedict VIII, first of several members of the Tusculani family to get the top spot, was elected, but opposed by the would-be Gregory VI of the declining Crescentii. Forced from the city, Gregory sought support from the German king Heinrich, but ultimately failed.
